Autumn 2007
Hi
Hope you're having a good year so far.
Thanks for your e-mails asking me what I've been up to. I've spent the last few months doing private and corporate gigs, so I've kind of disappeared off the radar as far as public gigs are concerned. However, I'm delighted to say that BBC 1 Wales will be screening the Funny Business series (mentioned in a previous newsletter)in Janury of the New Year. We're doing a press launch at the St.David's Spa Hotel on 3rd December, so I imagine you'll get to hear about the exact dates and times soon after. Keep an eye out - there are some great comics on the show. I reckon it should help to brighten up those long, dark winter nights.
And now that the clocks have gone back, and the only sunshine we'll see for the next few months will some courtesy of I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here!, I'll be looking at my screensaver to keep me going. It's a photo from a recent busman's holiday we had in Mauritius (someone's gotta do it!). Debs and I went with the Variety Club kids charity and their golf society. The occasion was the Jerry Stevens Classic, a fundraising golf tournament hosted by the charming Jerry himself. It was amazing and we met some great people including the once fastest man on the planet Alan Wells, John Lodge of Moody Blues fame and the legend and diamond geezer that is Dennis Waterman. I was joined by magician David Redfearn (so good he must be in league with the devil) and a mighty fine comic called Dave Woolfe-a comsummate pro and thoroughly decent bloke to boot (that tip about using the five-iron saved me from getting most of my laughs on the course - cheers Dave!)
Most importantly we had an insight into a great charity and the work it does (the trip produced sufficient funds for two sunshine coaches). Long may it's fine work continue.
Anyway it's back to reality as they say, and I'm praying for the return of Lost to help ease my tropical withdrawal symptoms.
In the meantime, enjoy Halloween, Bonfire Night and the fast impending festive season - my cd interchanger is already armed and loaded with Chris Rea's Driving Home For Christmas - that song's just too good to only play a few weeks of the year!
Happy Holidays!
Rod
PS Only had a couple, but Tescos Deep Filled may knock Lyons off the top of the mince pie charts this year - could we have a new Christmas number one?
